Day 2: Yellowstone

We were up and gone from our campsite by 8 in the morning. We snacked on breakfast stuff in the car. We decided that we couldn't really go on any really long hikes because of the boys, so we did lots of driving and shorter hikes/walks.

Us at Old Faithful. Joe just missed this because he was trying to find a parking spot. He dropped us off right on time. We saw the whole thing. Joseph loved the geysers and the hot pots.

Me and Joe. He was great to plan and take us on this trip. My rugged mountain man. :)

Up close to a bison. It is funny that animals can be the cause of traffic jams. This bison was really close to the road. Joe parked and got a picture of it. He didn't get any closer for the obvious reason that it is a wild animal. We also saw lots of elk the day before when we entered Yellowstone and in the morning.

Yellowstone Falls. Very picturesque.

There is a bear in this picture. It was a black bear on the side of the road. Unfortunately, it was on the driver's side of the car and it was causing a huge back -up in traffic in both directions. Joe snapped this as he was trying to drive by. Yeah!! We were so excited to have seen a bear. This is the first time for both of us outside of the zoo. Joseph couldn't see it because he couldn't see around the branches.

Joseph and daddy at the Celestine Pool. It smelled of sulfur all around.

Joseph plugging his nose to block out the rotten egg smell. He loved the paint pots here.

Samuel a little disgruntled about not being able to walk around.

Our first geyser of the day. We went on Firehold drive and saw lots of cool geothermal features. We caught this geyser shooting up pretty high. This was before Old Faithful.

I loved the contrast of color in this picture. Joe and Joseph walked the middle basin. I sat in the car with Samuel who was asleep. The wind was crazy. Our whole car was shaking from the gusts. Joe said there were 17 hats in Excelsior geyser due to the wind. We didn't have a place to stay this night either because we had planned on staying in Dubois. We found a KOA north of Yellowstone and called it a night. Joe cooked hot dogs for us. Yum. Samuel slept a little better here. Early in the morning we packed our car. More to come on that in another blog post.
