Day 1: Grand Teton

We took off for our trip at about 2 in the morning so we would have a full day at Teton National Park. I slept in the car and Joe managed to hit 50% of the wildlife that scampered onto the road in front of him (2 out of 4 large rabbits). It was beautiful and cool when we arrived. We did one hike that was 3 miles round trip. It was to look at Swan Lake and Heron Pond. Being a little naive about mosquitos and their habitats, I told Joe we wouldn't need OFF because we were going to be some place colder. After 3 hours of being eaten alive by mosquitos and having a tired Joseph and Samuel half way through the hike, we made it out and back to our car. Lesson 1 learned: 3 hours is too long for 2 little boys on a hike.

We saw some elk on our drive. This was our first taste of the wildlife that we would see and photograph.

Pelicans and other birds at Swan Lake. We forgot our "rinoculars" as Joseph calls them in the car. Also, we forgot our bear spray. Lucky for us, we didn't run into any bears on this hike.

Some more of the Teton mountains. It was beautiful and peaceful...if you discount Samuel screaming because he wanted to get down. When we did put him down for a little bit, he got himself completely dirty. Outfit 1 for the trip wet and dirty in the first few hours of our trip. This doesn't include his wet pajamas to begin the day.

Our first sight of bison. Obviously, my pictures aren't the best. Those are bison...I swear. :)

After a nice morning around Teton, we drove to our campground. We were going to camp at the KOA in Dubois, WY. We got there and the wind was blowing at about 20 to 25 mph and gusting at about 30 to 40 mph (we looked it up later). For the life of us, we couldn't get the tent set up. After fighting the wind for about an hour and a half, we decided to cut our losses and leave. This meant we had no place to sleep for the night. We decided to drive to Yellowstone and try our luck. Luckily, we found a campsite that still had a site available (everything else was full). We set up our tent in the dark. Samuel woke up crying at 3 in the morning, so I went to the car with him and ended up sleeping with him on my lap wrapped in blankets. Joseph woke up at 5 because he got cold in his sleeping bag. More to come on day 2 in a new post.
